Halfway into January, I am guessing those new year goals aren’t so fresh and new, and you, like so many others, may be regretting such HUGE ambitions…. how do I know, because I have been there! Today I am sharing 4 simple things I do daily that make a difference in my productivity, and just general happiness!
1. I MAKE MY BED
Years ago I started the habit of making my bed daily. I had my desk in my bedroom, and hated seeing a messy bed each day while my babies napped and I tried to get videos filmed and edited. Not every habit I have tried to form in my life has stuck, but man I am glad this one has. It takes under 2 minutes, and is one thing I can do in the morning to setup for a great day.
2. WEAR MAKEUP
I go back and forth on this one, but I like makeup. I like the way it makes me feel put together and alive. I wish it didn’t, but it does. I don’t go crazy, I actually try to keep it under 10 products in my makeup bag at one time. Wearing some makeup each day is just something small I do to make me feel better each day. Here is currently what’s in my makeup bag:
3. PACK LUNCHES/ CLEAN KITCHEN AT NIGHT
Ok, so this one is SO HARD to do EVERY day….. but it makes a HUGE difference. I have this thing where I think of things my future self will thank me for…. like me standing in a clean kitchen at 7:30 am and I don’t have to pack lunches…. you better believe I am pretending to fist bump me from last night that GOT THAT SHIT DONE! In reality it doesn’t take THAT long, but some nights it’s hard. You just want to throw in the towel and be done… and that’s ok. Just try more nights than not to go to bed with a clean kitchen at night. Heck the packed lunches can just be a bonus.
4. NIGHTLY SELF CARE / SKINCARE / TURN MY PHONE OFF AT NIGHT
I don’t have some lengthy skin care regime that I swear by, I tend to not use a ton, but giving myself to take a hot shower, wash my makeup off and refresh my skin at night is something I do each night. I USED to be terrible at not washing my makeup off before bed. I quickly realized how terrible of a habit that was, so I made a change. It is a relaxing way to end the day. I also turn off any notifications on my phone at night. I WILL not pick up my phone after I am done for the day. If I wake up at night, I don’t let myself grab my phone. I spend a lot of time on screens during the day, and don’t want to create a bad habit of being on my phone when I should be sleeping.
Makeup Remover: This is my go to product. It’s easy, it works, and it doesn’t break the bank.
Quartz Roller: I don’t know what it actually does, or if it’s legit, so I don’t want to claim it works wonders, but it does feel so nice to roll out my face each night.
Makeup Towels: I still use my cleansing balm because I love it so much, but it is great to use these in place of a regular wash cloth on my face.
Towel Headband: A MUST! Great for keeping the hair out of you face and keeping water and product from getting in your hair!
Night Cream: This is what I use, I am constantly on the hunt for a favorite that I never want to replace, and this is not it. I have heard great things about the Tula line, so I recently purchased a travel pack (what I do when I want to try out something new, so I am not stuck with full size products if I don’t like it) to try out, so we will see.
Tula Eye Balm: This is the one Tula product I have and REALLY like. It’s great for morning and night, which is awesome because the less products to clutter up my space the better!
*BONUS* 5 MINUTES TO PLAN MY DAY
I don’t have trouble sleeping, I never have. I actually love sleep. One thing I try to do each night though, is clear my head of all the running lists. Taking 5 minutes to make a list, or plan my day for tomorrow, is so helpful. It doesn’t take long, it doesn’t need to be perfect, but it gives me a road map of where to start when I wake up in the morning.
What are a few things that help your day run smoothly, or just make you happier throughout the day?
