Before we go into the tips please please please, watch this video! It discusses the need to do it all, and how sometimes it is ok to step away from the to do lists and just be in the moment, relax, and refresh.
All that being said, we can’t be lazy 24/7, and I know I feel better when I am motivated and accomplishing tasks. So below are to things I do when I need the motivation within my day.
MAKE YOUR BED — I used to NEVER make my bed, and I would laugh off people who said it was a huge daily motivation. Let me tell you, I now make my bed daily and it has been a life changer.
GET DRESSED AND READY FOR YOUR DAY — This is a tip made famous by Fly Lady, but it makes a huge difference in my mood for the day when I take the time to pick out a real outfit, put on makeup and do my hair.
GET OUT OF YOUR HOUSE — I have been a SAHM/WAHM for over a decade (wow that made me just sound much older than I am !! ) Being in your home can get VERY lonely and at times can make you very unproductive. Get out and get some fresh air, take a walk, run an errand. ANYTHING! I know when you have littles it is so much work to get everyone out the door, but TRUST ME it will help your mood instantly!
1 GOAL OF THE DAY — Set yourself up for a successful day. Set 1 big goal you want to accomplish. Once that is done you will be so motivated to keep going. The term “eat the frog” I don’t agree with. The theory is to do your most hated/hardest task first that way it is out the way for your day…. I actually think for me at least if I start my day with small easy tasks I don’t mind, I am then in a mood to conquer more. If I try to “eat the frog” first, I end up never starting at all.
PLAN OUT THE REST OF YOUR WEEK — If you have a daunting to-do list that seems impossible, take some time to spread those tasks out over the next few days. You then have a reasonable game plan to tackle your week!
TAKE A NAP — I Always feel better after a nap. I tend to run myself ragged and napping to refresh means I can take on the rest of my day with energy. Find pockets of your day that you tend to have the most energy to take on your to do list.
REWARD YOURSELF — Make mini finish lines in your day, and when you make it through reward yourself with a social media break, a coffee, some time to read, whatever it may be.
PUT ON SOME MUSIC — Music, YouTube Videos, The TV, Podcasts, whatever will keep you on track but also keep you company. I am finding now that my kiddos are in school more that a quiet house to me is too soothing. It is something that I am not used to. So having background noise is a must!
REMEMBER YOUR WHY — Remember why you are doing the things that you do. My family is a huge motivator for me. I do all the tasks I can while they are at work and school so that the time we have together we can focus on enjoying each others company.
GET OFF SOCIAL MEDIA — I hate to say it, but this is probably my biggest tip. Social Media is a huge time sucker. Set time limits like you would for your kids, or use it as background noise while doing housework.
I hope these tips were helpful!
